Sometimes, we can comprehend sculptures, paintings, music or another form of art by utilizing
a singular sense or sometimes by utilizing multiple senses. Before considering what a sculpture
conveys, seeing it first and then maybe touching it would be enough for us to understand and define it,
especially them being existent in our world with their materialistic forms. Differences could be varied
as large or small, stone or bronze, abstract or figurative, are the attributes that shape our way of
communication with the sculpture. Therefore, comprehending the art work by being in it could be
defined as a way of communication determined by the artist. Spatial analyses conducted as
arrangements, placements etc., not only lure the audience into the art work and help them be a part of
it but also help them comprehend the art work by providing different perspectives.
Audience to be a part of the art work is a fascinating topic for most artists. For example, with
“Blind Light”, Anthony Gormley invites the audience into a glass box and lets them experience a
misty setting. With “Fireflies on the Water”, Yayoi Kusama invites the audience to overcome their
own individualism. Even though these sorts of works, which have much more examples, are applied as
short time exhibitions or shows, it is possible to see permanent installations of them as well.
