Language is a production of mind. It is communicative, social, natural, variable, creative, arbitrary, vocal and runs with the rules. Speaking is a competence and a behaviour that presents the practicing of the language. It is a way of communication and method of transforming the messages. While speaking, the conscious and uncounscious cognitive behaviours are revealing by the speakers. Michael Canale and Merrill Swain defended the general speaking competences in 1980s. According to this, the language competences are grammar, discourse, socio-linguistic and strategic. Harris (1997) explaines that speaking is a complex skill which consists of using some different competences like pronounciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary etc. together while speaking in its course in different developmental speaking stages. Therefore, testing and analyzing the speaking of individuals in this complex structure of speaking in a right way and with a high attention is considerably important.
In this study, the speaking skill of the 100 university students who come from different cities in Turkey and studying in diferent departments at the university is tested in various stages and the data gathered analyzed by the SPSS and presented.
