This study aims to investigate the reading comprehension of 200 primary school students
living in the Western Thrace, region of Greece, namely Gümülcine and İskeçe through different
variables. 45-question- achievement test was prepared from the selected books and its reliability and
validity was conducted. To KR-20 the internal consistency of the test is found to be 0.87. The finding
shows that the comprehension of primary school students is at the medium level. Additionally, a
significant difference is found between the girls and boys and the difference is in favour of girls.
Regional differences were also recorded however the difference is relatively minor.
