REFLECTIONS OF THE DAMAGE OF PLASTIC WASTE TO NATURE IN ART AND CERAMIC APPLICATIONS
Abstract
Plastics, which was discovered in the late 19th century and started to be produced in the real sense after 1950s, have reached to amounts that are hard to deal with in terms of waste produced by the 21st century. In addition to various projects and petitions carried out by the organizations operating in the relevant problem today, art has also rolled up to draw attention to this current issue. Some of the artists working on the subject upcycle real plastic waste and some others produce their unique artworks by using their own materials and techniques in a creative language. The productions of contemporary ceramic artists on abovementioned theme are at a considerable point.
This research discusses how art approaches to plastic waste and the negativities they cause; it includes artworks by artists from different disciplines and examples of Contemporary Ceramic Art. In the light of the information obtained as a result of the research, unique ceramic artworks related to the subject were produced by the researcher and these were explained in terms of their techniques and approaches they have related to the subject. It is aimed to draw attention and to approach the subject both scientifically and artistically through both literature and artwork studies.
