Abstract

In this study, the similarities between the depictions of Mary and Child, one of the most
important themes in Christian iconography and art, which have been repeated in various forms for
hundreds of years, and the portrayals of Isis and Horus of Ancient Egyptian civilizations as a source
of this theme have been researched. Examples of works related to similarities in this work were
selected from examples of paintings and sculptures based on Isis and Horus in Ancient Egypt and
examples of Mary and Child based paintings and sculptures from different artistic periods dating from
early Christian period icons. This study shows that; The mother and child theme, which has been
confronted in different cultures for thousands of years, has become an important main motive that
continues to be influential in the iconography and art of Ancient Egypt and Christian, together with
important similarities between them.
