Abstract

Although the opposing views on the European integration process were seen during the establishment of the European Union, the criticisms made against the existence and policies of the Union in recent years have led to an increase in Euroscepticism in the European Union. Euroscepticism, which was first used by Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s and came to the fore especially with the Maastricht Treaty, constitutes a very important agenda item in terms of questioning the future of the Union. In this direction, the study will focus on the representation of Eurosceptic parties in the European Parliament through party-based Euroscepticism, after firstly laying down the foundations of the concept of Euroscepticism in the European Union. In the 2019 European Parliament elections, unlike previous elections, Eurosceptic parties gathered under one roof and started to act monophonically instead of dispersing among different groups, which is an important indicator of the increasing importance of Euroscepticism in the European Union. In this context, the study will try to explain and address Euroscepticism through the Identity and Democracy Group.
