NEW PERIOD IN AIRPORTS AEROTROPOLIS STRUCTURES: ISTANBUL AIRPORT CASE
Abstract
From the beginning of aviation to the present day, many changes and developments such as people's living conditions, technology and innovation have occurred along with the demands and needs. In terms of the width of the area required by the airports, it is generally in question to be positioned outside the living areas. Due to the fact that aerotropolis concept has emerged, because centered located airports save time to the users. Along with the global epidemic Covid-19, which emerged in 2019, the importance of interconnected commercial structures in aerotropolis structures also comes to the fore. Thanks to the communication between the stakeholders in the structure, it will be possible to get rid of the harm caused by the epidemic more easily.
Aerotropologies in which the airports such as Schiphol, Dallas / Fort Worth, Changi and Dubai can be shown among the examples have been examined within the scope of the study. With the literature review and the review of official websites in 2018, data on airports were collected. Then the first aerotropolis airport to be held in Turkey's case has been investigated Istanbul Airport. Information about Istanbul Airport was obtained through qualitative research methods, interview method and the examination of official websites. As a result, together with the data obtained from the sample aerotropes, the properties of the aerotropes were determined and it was revealed how much of the said Istanbul Airport has these features.
