Abstract

Computer and communication technologies have made the difference in consumption habits between countries independent from the development and gross national income and made it indexed to the national income per capita and the personal incomes of individuals. Compared to 1980, when Turkey experienced a great economic and political change, the gap between consumption habits between Turkey and the USA has decreased remarkably as of 2023. One of the most obvious indicators of this is the place of digital technologies in the processes and systems used in daily life. When the production and service sectors in both countries are considered, from retail trade to transportation; from banking and finance to culinary services; and from healthcare to services such as hairdressers, It can be said that computer and digital communication technologies go hand in hand in many fields and sectors. While the USA seems to be more advanced in some areas in communication speed and information security, Turkey is much more advanced in areas such as the integration of telemedicine, health, and banking systems. In this conference paper, the methods and systems used in two countries in different fields and sectors are briefly compared. It is considered that one of the most important factors in the spread of information and communication technologies and their penetration into society depends on the extent to which the country's economies are registered or informal. Consequently, although some segments of both societies would like to stay in the unrecorded economy, digital transformation ensures that society functions are increasingly formalized.
