Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Text Consistency and Writing Rules: The article file has been prepared in accordance with all writing, formatting, and bibliographic rules specified in the Author Guidelines. Sources used in the text are referenced completely and accurately, and the reference list is formatted according to international standards (APA 7, Chicago, etc., depending on the journal's preference). Tables, figures, graphs, and appendices are numbered correctly within the text and accompanied by explanations.
  • Author Information: The full names, academic titles, institutional affiliations, ORCID ID numbers, and contact details (phone number, email address, postal address) of all authors included in the study will be entered into the system. The author order has been determined by mutual agreement among all authors, and there are no conflicts of interest.

    Individuals who did not contribute to the study have not been included in the author list.
  • Copyright and Publication Rights: By submitting the article to the journal, the author(s) undertake to prepare and upload the Copyright Transfer and Publication Agreement with a wet signature to the system. This agreement explicitly states that the article has not been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
  • For Studies Requiring Ethics Committee Approval: For all studies for which data was collected in 2020 (surveys, interviews, focus groups, experiments, observations, animal experiments, clinical research, etc.), the Ethics Committee Approval Certificate (including the date, number, and name of the approving committee) has been uploaded to the system as an ‘Additional File’. This information is also stated in the ‘Methods’ section of the article and on the last page of the article.
    For Studies Not Requiring Ethics Committee Approval: (Reviews, theoretical studies, studies using data collected before 2020, publicly available data sets, etc.) it is clearly stated in the ‘Methods’ section of the article or in a footnote that the study does not require ethics committee approval.
  • Preparation for Blind Review: The article has been prepared in accordance with the double-blind review process. Information such as the author(s)' name, institution, acknowledgments, and biography has been removed from the main text file. The blinded file has also been uploaded to the system.
  • The full text file contains the following sections: 1) Turkish title, abstract, and keywords, 2) English title, abstract, and keywords, 3) JEL Codes, 4) Introduction, methods, findings, discussion, and conclusions sections
    The text has been prepared in an original manner in accordance with scientific ethical rules.
  • Additional Files (if any): The data sets, analysis codes, or additional materials used in the study have been uploaded in the appropriate formats, and the necessary explanations for access have been provided. The images do not contain any copyright infringement, and the necessary permissions have been obtained for each material used.

Author Guidelines

Authors submitting manuscripts to the  J. Orig. Stud. are expected to follow the rules outlined in these guidelines to ensure the quality, integrity, and conformity of the work to international standards. Our journal requires APA 7th Edition (American Psychological Association, 7th Edition) style for in-text citations and references.

Articles that do not comply with these rules may be returned to their authors without being evaluated for content.

1. Pre-submission Ethics and Policy Checklist

Before submitting, please read the following policies and confirm that your manuscript complies with them:

  • Purpose and Scope: Please make sure that your manuscript complies with the Purpose and Scope page of our journal.
  • Publication Ethics: Please check that your manuscript fully complies with our Editorial Ethics policies (plagiarism, duplicate publication, false authorship, conflict of interest, etc.). Our journal scans all submitted manuscripts with iThenticate software.
  • Ethics Committee Approval: Ethics Committee Approval Document must be obtained for all studies involving the collection of data from human participants through surveys, interviews, experiments or other methods, and this information must be specified in the “Methods” section of the article.
  • Copyright and License: Our journal is an open access journal. Copyright remains with the author (Copyright © The Author(s)) and all articles are published under the CC BY 4.0 license.

2. Manuscript Submission Process and File Preparation

Our journal applies the Double-Blind Peer Review process. For this process to work, authors must upload two (2) separate files to the system:

File 1: Main Text File (Blind File) This file is the main text that the referees will review and should not contain any information that will decipher the identity of the authors .

  • It should contain: Title, Abstract, Keywords, JEL Codes, Main Text (Introduction to Conclusion), References, Tables and Figures.
  • What Should Not Include: Author names, institutional information, ORCID iDs, e-mail addresses, acknowledgments, or funding information (this information will be added to File 2).

File 2: Title Page This file will only be seen by the editor and will not be sent to the referees.

  • Full title of the article.
  • Name-Surname, Title, ORCID iD (mandatory), Institution (Department, Faculty, University, City, Country) and e-mail address of all authors.
  • The Corresponding Author should be clearly identified.
  • Acknowledgements (Acknowledgements / Funding Statement), if any, to the funds or individuals who supported the study.

3. Manuscript Format for First Submission

For the efficiency of the evaluation process, strict layout rules (columnar structure, special fonts, etc.) are not required from authors at the first submission. Layout will be done by our production team after acceptance.

  • File Type: Microsoft Word (.docx).
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt.
  • Line Spacing: Double Spaced ( including all text, headings and references).
  • Page Layout: A4, margins 2.54 cm (1 inch) on all sides.
  • Page Number: Must be included on all pages.
  • Length: It is strongly recommended that the total length, including references, tables and figures, should not exceed 8,000 words (approximately 25-30 pages).

4. Article Structure and Content

4.1. Title The title should clearly and concisely reflect the content of the article.

4.2. Abstract The abstract should be between 200 and 250 words. It should give the reader a quick overview of the entire paper. A good Abstract should answer the following four questions:

  1. Objective: What did this study aim to investigate (what is the problem?)
  2. Method: How was the research done (What is the data, sample, method of analysis?)
  3. Findings: What are the main findings (What was found?)
  4. Conclusion/Specificity: What do these findings mean? (What is the contribution of the study?)

4.3. Keywords and JEL Codes

  • Immediately below the Abstract, 3 to 5 Keywords should be provided.
  • Below the Keywords, at least 2 JEL Codes (e.g. D91, E24, J31) to which the study is relevant should be indicated.

4.4. Main Text The text should be structured in clear headings so that the reader can follow a logical flow. It should usually include the following sections: 1. Introduction, 2. Literature Review, 3. Methodology, 4. Findings / Results, 5. Discussion and Conclusion.

4.5. Headings - APA 7 Style Please use APA 7 format for the heading hierarchy within the text:

  • Level 1: Bold, Centered, Capitalized (ex: Method 3)
  • Level 2: Bold, Left Justified, Capitalized (e.g.: 3.1. Data Set)
  • Level 3: Bold, Italic, Left Justified, Capitalized (e.g. 3.1.1. Demographic Data)

4.6. Tables and Figures

  • All tables (Table 1, Table 2...) and figures (Figure 1, Figure 2...) should be numbered sequentially in the text.
  • Table Title: Above the number, bold (e.g. Table 1), italicized title on the bottom line (e.g. Distribution of Demographic Characteristics).
  • Figure Caption: Above the number, bold (e.g. Figure 1), italicized title on the bottom line (e.g. Inflation Rates by Year).
  • Tables and figures should not be inserted where they should be in the text, but after the list of references, each on a separate page. (It should be indicated as [Table 1 here] in the text).

5. Citation and Bibliography Guide (APA 7th Edition)

5.1. In-Text Citations

  • Parenthetical: (Şahin, 2024).
  • Narrative: According to Sahin (2024).
  • Two Authors: (Şahin & Karakoyun, 2024) OR Şahin and Karakoyun (2024)...
  • Three or More Authors: From the first citation (Baş et al., 2024) OR Baş et al. (2024)...
  • Institution (First Citation): (Turkish Statistical Institute [TurkStat], 2024).
  • Institution (Subsequent Citations): (TurkStat, 2024).

5.2. Reference List The reference list should be given under the heading “References” (or “References”), in alphabetical order and in APA 7 format.

6. Post Acceptance Process

Once your article is accepted, it will be edited (converted to magazine format) by our production team. Authors will receive a proof copy for a final check before publication. At this stage, only typesetting errors can be corrected; major changes such as adding new data or paragraphs to the text are not allowed.
