Abstract

Existing building stocks of cities to be transferred to future generations, is always present emerges as
a topic of discussion from past to present. If these structures especially are of particular historical
value, changing history, culture differences, in terms of references to reflect the present day with the
most concrete way of life it is of paramount importance. The structures also don’t always reach to
present day with same function. They have to change their function based on social, cultural, social or economic reasons. In this case, the "reuse" method is put into effect in order to survive in today's
conditions. For this reason, the purpose of the study is to interrogation user memory of interruption /
durableness or renewal by reuse the structure, instead of being destroyed and rebuilt.
In this study the reuse method and the method’s awareness on the user were evaluated on SALT ULUS
Art Museum on the Ulus-Kızılay Atatürk Boulevard, which constitutes the city's backbone during the
Republican era in Ankara. This building, which is used as Inspector's lodgings of the former Ottoman
Bank, continues to meet with its users by turning into an art museum today. Finally the aim of the
study is to create a discussion environment for the transformations to be made.
