Journal of Awareness (J. Aware.) is an international, double-blind peer-reviewed, Diamond Open Access journal. It publishes original research and review articles in the humanities and social sciences, aiming to increase social and scientific awareness.
1. General Information
Q1. What is the scope of the journal?
The journal covers scholarly research in the humanities and social sciences, including but not limited to education, culture, communication, sociology, psychology, philosophy, ethics, governance, rights, development, sustainability, and interdisciplinary awareness studies.
Q2. In which languages do you accept manuscripts?
The journal accepts manuscripts in English and Turkish. Authors are expected to ensure that the language quality of the manuscript is suitable for academic publication.
Q3. What is the publication model?
Since Volume 10, Journal of Awareness has followed a continuous publication model. Accepted articles are published online after peer review, acceptance, copyediting, typesetting, and final author approval.
Q4. What types of manuscripts does the journal publish?
The journal publishes original research articles, review articles, critical analyses, and interdisciplinary studies that fall within the journal's aim and scope.
2. Article Submission and Fees
Q5. Does the journal charge any submission, review, or publication fees?
No. Journal of Awareness is a Diamond Open Access journal. There are no submission fees, editorial processing fees, peer-review fees, article processing charges (APCs), acceptance fees, page charges, colour charges, or any other publication-related fees. The journal is completely free for authors and readers.
Q6. How is the journal sustained without author fees?
The journal is sustained through the support of its publisher, institutional infrastructure, and the voluntary scholarly contributions of editors and reviewers. This model supports equitable access to scholarly publishing.
Q7. What is the copyright and licensing status?
Authors retain the copyright of their works. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
3. Peer Review and Editorial Process
Q8. How does the peer-review process work?
The journal applies a double-blind peer-review process. Manuscripts first undergo editorial screening for aim and scope, originality, ethical compliance, formatting, and similarity. Suitable manuscripts are then assigned to at least two independent reviewers.
Q9. What is the usual review timeline?
The initial editorial screening is generally completed within 7-10 days. The standard peer-review process usually takes approximately 30-45 days, depending on reviewer availability, revision requirements, and editorial workload.
Q10. Can a manuscript be rejected before peer review?
Yes. Manuscripts that are outside the journal's scope, do not meet basic academic or ethical standards, have serious methodological limitations, or show high similarity may be rejected during editorial screening.
4. Ethics, Similarity, and AI Use
Q11. Are manuscripts checked for plagiarism or similarity?
Yes. Submitted manuscripts are screened using iThenticate or other appropriate similarity-checking tools. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and other forms of research misconduct are not tolerated.
Q12. Is ethics committee approval required?
Ethics committee approval is required for studies involving human participants, personal data, surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, clinical data, or other methods requiring ethical review. Where applicable, the approval date, number, and committee name must be stated in the manuscript.
Q13. Can authors use artificial intelligence tools?
Authors may use AI tools for limited purposes such as language editing, writing support, coding assistance, or reference checking, provided that such use is disclosed in the manuscript. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work.
5. Archiving and Indexing
Q14. How is published content preserved?
The journal preserves its published content through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which is integrated with Open Journal Systems. The journal also maintains secure backups of published articles and metadata.
Q15. Where is the journal indexed?
The current abstracting and indexing information is available on the journal's Abstracting & Indexing page. Indexing coverage may change over time and is updated when necessary.
