Holistic Economics (Holist. Econ.) is an international, peer-reviewed, gold open-access journal published by Holistence Publications. The journal focuses on innovative and interdisciplinary studies that integrate economics with sustainability, environment, management, and social development perspectives.


1. General Information

Q1. What is the name of your journal and what fields does it cover?
The name of our journal is Holistic Economics (Holist. Econ.). It publishes original theoretical and empirical studies addressing the holistic nature of economics. The journal covers areas such as sustainable development, green economy, circular economy, environmental economics, public policy, finance, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and related interdisciplinary topics.

Q2. In which languages do you accept articles?
Article submissions are accepted in both English and Turkish.

Q3. What is the publication format?
Starting from Volume 4, Holistic Economics follows a continuous publication model. Accepted articles are published online immediately, without waiting for the completion of the issue.


2. Article Submission and Fees

Q4. Do you have a deadline for article submissions?
No. Submissions are open throughout the year. A specific deadline may apply for special issues; such information will be announced on the “Announcements” page.

Q5. Do you charge article review and publication fees?
Holistic Economics does not charge a submission fee. For accepted papers, an Article Processing Charge (APC) of 50 USD applies after acceptance to support production and archiving costs. During 2025, APC is waived for English-language research articles.

Q6. What is the copyright and licensing status?
Authors retain copyright of their works. All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, which allows unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction provided that the original work is properly cited.


3. Review Process

Q7. How does the review process work?
The journal operates a double-blind peer-review system, ensuring anonymity for both authors and reviewers.

Each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening followed by external peer review:

  1. Pre-check by the Editor-in-Chief (scope, format, plagiarism, and originality).
  2. Assignment to a Section Editor specialized in the field.
  3. Evaluation by at least two independent reviewers.
  4. Editorial decision based on reviewers’ reports.
  5. Revision process, if required (minor = 3 weeks; major = 8 weeks).
  6. Final approval and publication preparation.

Q8. What is the average decision time?
The standard review period is approximately 30 days. Revisions are expected within 21 days for minor changes and 60 days for major revisions. These timelines are indicative and may vary depending on reviewer availability.

Q9. Can authors appeal after a decision?
Yes. Authors may submit a reasoned written appeal to the Editor-in-Chief if they believe there was an error or misunderstanding in the review process.


4. Information for Authors

Q10. What should I pay attention to in the Author Guidelines?

  • Manuscript structure, word length, title hierarchy, citation and reference style, and table/figure formatting.
  • Acceptable file formats (MS Word or PDF).
  • Ethical statements on originality, conflict of interest, concurrent submissions, and ethical approval (if applicable).
  • Mandatory plagiarism check through iThenticate.
  • An English title, abstract, and keywords are required for all submissions, regardless of the article’s main language.

Q11. Is data sharing or code access required?
Authors are encouraged to share the data or code that supports their findings, or they may indicate that it is “available upon request.”

Q12. What happens after an article is accepted?
Accepted articles are professionally typeset. A galley proof is sent to the corresponding author for final approval. Only minor typographical corrections can be made at this stage.


5. Publication and Access

Q13. When will my article be published?
Accepted manuscripts are published online immediately under the continuous publication model.

Q14. What is the open-access policy?
Holistic Economics is a Gold Open Access journal — all articles are freely available to readers worldwide upon publication.

Q15. What should I know about citations, DOI, and indexing?

  • Each article receives a unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier).
  • The journal is indexed in multiple academic databases; details are listed on the “Index & Databases” page.
  • Authors are encouraged to share their published work on institutional repositories, social media, and research platforms.

6. Ethical Rules and Policy

Holistic Economics adheres to international standards of publication ethics and integrity:

  • Compliance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
  • Disclosure of potential conflicts of interest.

  • Prohibition of fabrication, falsification, and redundant publication.

Q17. What happens to rejected articles?
Declined submissions are not reconsidered in their original form. Substantially revised manuscripts may be submitted as new articles.
